The Open 2025 Accommodation
The Open 2025 at Portrush GC - Barneys Ruins is an old Irish Clachan located in the most tranquil corner of our family farm in Maghera. The clachan consists of a cottage, slowly extended over time with an adjacent small outbuilding. Since the last time the cottage was lived in over a century ago it had deteriorated and fallen into ruins. Our clachan rose to fame following its feature on the Northern Ireland BBC TV series Restoration Rescue presented and designed by Architect Patrick Bradley where he undertook the ambitious challenge of restoring the clachan to its former glory.
Resting above the old stone ruins of great-great uncle Barneys home dating back to 1830, the cottage is our most spacious, luxurious accommodation. Complete with a Jotul wood burning stove and two outdoor soaking baths overlooking the adjacent farmlands. A bespoke staircase provides access to the one-bedroom contemporary unit. Large south facing elevation glazing, and an external balcony provides connection, and dramatic views over the courtyard and ruins below, as well as over the surrounding farmlands and distant countryside. A specialized lighting and cladding design illuminates the cottage at night, making it appear to float across the rural landscape like magic.
Once the home of Barney our resident build, the old stone barn has been transformed into a cosy romantic one-bedroom loft style unit. On entering the barn, you will be greeted with a striking feature concrete fireplace and chimney. Tucked behind is a small shower room. A bespoke staircase leads up to a sleeping nook, overlooking the open plan living area. A doorway to the rear gives access to a private patio overlooking the farmlands. The barn is our smallest accommodation.
